Real life pantry planning ….
ResilienceOver the weekend I did some window shopping. What I want to do is get a handle on what it’s going to take to have a years worth of food on hand.
To make this exercise simple I started with breakfast.
From what I could find, locally:
$15 a month for oatmeal, buying in bulk.
If we buy an extra week’s worth each week then it will rotate out nicely too. And be easier to come up with the cash.
Because oatmeal is a bit bland for most tastes something like applesauce, yogurt or sugar needs to be around to go with it.
So, factor in another $10 a month, unless you can make your own applesauce, etc….
$25 a month for breakfast.
Or, $300 a year.
If we can come up with $300 we can get a years worth of breakfast in the pantry, right now. Nice investment. Use the stores in the pantry and keep replacing it.
Looking at dinner:
$10 for 25 lbs of pinto beans
A bunch of beans! Wonder how far 100 lbs would go?
Add bulk rice and you’ve got the core fixings for dinner.
Bag a rabbit from the backyard and your gonna be feeling pretty good about being able to feed your family in hard times.
The next step is to learn how to stock the pantry growing the food yourself.
