Fire and Light on the Mystic Path

This article wasn't going to be written. After writing yesterday I decided to stop attempting to publish everyday. My interest is in exploring some ideas in greater depth. So instead of publishing daily I thought I would slow down and spend time researching interesting subjects and then writing about those at a slower frequency.

I am still planning on making that shift. Except I felt this energy to write. Then the sun go tin the way. On the way to Aikido tonight I saw it was still light out. The clouds had parted enough to show a sunset when just a few weeks ago there was darkness.

Pretty soon the evenings will be light again and spring will be in full bloom.

Coincidentally, if you believe in coincidence, my meditation this morning was about light. In the context of Bardon's Initiation into Hermetics, light's source is from the Principle of Fire.

Light is expansive, as is Fire. Opposite light is darkness, which is sourced from Water, with the quality of contraction.

What a delightful contemplation!

According to Bardon light and darkness came into being out of the reciprocal action of Fire and Water. With light being the positive effect and darkness being the negative effect. Even more interesting this occurs in all regions. Since I don't even know what all regions means yet I am going to let my imagination run for a bit.

With spring on the way the Earth will come to life once again. Expanding in richness and variety. The expansion though came after the period of darkness and contraction.

A thought occurred to me as I weighted the experience of light and dark, of expansion and contraction. Darkness is not just absence of light! In a way dark is really just as much a thing as light.

Might we say light is an absence of dark? Well, yes, we might just. Working with the Principles of Water and Fire we might hold light and dark as being equal if opposite aspects sourced from those primary principles.

Can we have just light? Can we have just Fire?

With the polarity then mediated by Air we get Earth, substance, The physical world as we know it coming out of and binding the first three principles.

Then I started wondering. If light and dark are in all regions, and regions are kind of like the planes of reality, do we find Fire and Water in all regions?

If we do find Fire and Water in all regions then do we also find Air in all regions?

Finally, and this one was fun to noodle. Do we find Earth in all regions? Only is Earth vibrating in different rates in each region. Say we are talking about the Astral plane. Is the Principle of Earth active there as well?

I don't know. Bardon probably addresses this later or in his book of questions and answers I am waiting (im)patiently to be delivered.

I do like the idea that the Principle of Earth is more than the rock in the driveway.

So, now we have the polarity of light and dark active in the Cosmos. Casting rays and non-rays to enjoy on my way to the dojo. Speaking of which Aikido is turning out to be a wonderful physical expression of many of these concepts.
