On Studying Druid Occultism and More
OccultWelcome to the first post of this new blog of mine. Yep, DruidMagick.com really is a fresh start for me. No, I am not bringing over any of the content I’ve created through the years currently residing on those other blogs. None. All new content with a new energy and focus is the plan for DM.com.
Why? Cutting loose the past is sometimes the best option. Plus, I really do need help sometimes keeping ideas within some kind of reasonable scope. Reasonable scope in this case means Druid Magick!
Okay, that may be pretty broad. And maybe it is as I plan on covering tarot, numerology, astrology, and the history of any and all of those among other things. The difference now is I am going to be taking a Druid perspective. Which I have come to realize has been in me all these years waiting patiently to be recognized.
Not only do I recognize my druidness now shining through I am even six months into a two plus year study of druid occultism called The Dolmen Arch. The DA is written and compiled by John Michael Greer and yes I am a big fan of all of his writing. In the DA he took the remnants of an early twentieth century correspondence course in druid occultism he was given and then he compiled, augmented, and made the works pretty awesome all around. You can find him over at [https://ecosophia.net]1 where he writes about many aspects of occultism along with where humans have been and where we are heading.
Back to the course. Yes, I have been doing my studies every single day for over six months. Every day. Without fail. Even when I was sick. When the time is right for something in my life then it happens without struggle. Struggle usually means something is off.
What are the highlights of my studying so far?
Discursive meditation - Dang! Decades of attempting to meditate and I have been doing it all wrong! At least wrong for me. Pick a theme and explore. Get distracted? Go back to the theme. Simple. Also unbelievably effective. Within a week of starting discursive meditation my reactivity was way down.
Banishing Ritual - My rather lazy attitude about ritual was doing me no favors over the many years. Cleaning energetic house around here is making a difference.
Strengthening Weak Areas - Because I was doing whatever popped up on my path, mostly energy work on the etheric plane, I wasn’t for example developing my astral senses much. Dream work helped but there was more I could do. Now I am doing it.
Speaking of astral development Greer has started a book club. I am pretty sure I will be sprouting some new astral appendages over the course of the next four years. Yes four years. Twenty two chapters, one chapter a month for each section.
First section is the doctrine. Second section is the ritual part. We are going through each chapter of Eliphas Levi’s The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic. In each chapter Levi uses one of the trump tarot cards as the theme. This month, Chapter I, uses Le Batelevr or The Magician.
I have had the book for a while now and have read the first few chapters more than once. Every reading has something new for me to ponder. Very exciting mind stretching material. Adding in meditations on the cards is adding some serious insight to the reading. Next, read the original French text which I have on my desk. After that is I learn to read French.
Got lots going on to share. See you next time!
