Thoughts on “I Am Number Four” and Superpowers

My daughter and I went to see the movie “I Am Number Four”  [http://findnumberfour.com/]2.  As movies go it was okay, she enjoyed it, though, liked the book better.  I was obviously not in the target demographic.

While I was watching it I noticed how the characters discovered their superpowers.  And I started thinking about how people in real life begin to realize what they are capable of beyond the physical.  Like energy work, remote viewing, empathy and the such.

Movies with characters that discover superpowers give us the opportunity to see someone go through the integration process.  Giving us a chance to witness and imagine what it would be like to tap into something deeper than the physical level of life.

Specifically, what sparked my thoughts was watching the main character discover the energy coming from his hands.  I’ve had the same kind of thing happen minus the light show. I was watching to see how the story would unfold as he went through the process learning and integrating his gifts.

My daughter said the book was much more detailed on this point.  Guess I’ll have to check it out.  The movie didn’t have enough time to tell that part of the story.

Sometimes I wonder if Hollywood is creating the possibility of actual “superpowers” in people’s lives by telling the stories for us in movies. Curious.
