Made My First Sling … Kind Of
ResilienceHey, a project almost got finished around here. Which one?
The sling project!
I found the directions for and Apache sling at Slinging.org in the articles section.
What I did is buy a spool of #18 seine twine at the local marine hardware store. Cut 3 10 foot lengths. Braided 2 inches of the middle for my finger. Then doubled up the lengths to double braid down to where the pocket split braid occurs. After doing the split for the pocket, double braided the remainder.
All told, less than 2 hours work. In a survival situation the gathering of the cordage would take far longer than the braiding.
If you try such a project one big piece of advice. Ten foot long cordage strands are not nearly long enough to create the sling for a 6 foot tall person. And it’s supposed to be a short sling by design!
Next time I’m going to start with 15 foot lengths.
