Abacus Followup

A while back, I wrote to tell you we were going to start using an abacus with the kids. The abacus arrived. And we started going through the manuals and worksheets with our oldest daughter. (We bought ours at http://www.alabacus.com/.)

Wow! This thing is great!!!

She enjoys using it because she can physically manipulate it. The abacus is really great for learning to visualize addition/subtraction and multiplication. Instead of memorizing you learn to see numbers in groups of beads and manipulate the groups.

The result is a big improvement in speed and accuracy.
